Bun B Presents Been Ridin’ Dirty — Smart Financial Centre | August 1, 2026

Ridin’ Dirty turns thirty on July 30, 2026 — two days before Bun B brings it home to the Houston area for a full album performance at Smart Financial Centre. The record was made in Port Arthur, Texas, a refinery city on the Gulf Coast less than ninety miles from Sugar Land. That proximity isn’t incidental. Neither is the timing.

About the Show

Bun B — Bernard Freeman, born 1973 in Port Arthur — presents the album as a start-to-finish immersive production at Smart Financial Centre on Saturday, August 1. Organizers describe the concert as a narrative-driven evening in which each of the album’s thirteen tracks is “situated within the environments and lived experiences that informed the album” — a cohesive document, not a greatest-hits shuffle. Some tracks, per the event materials, have rarely or never been performed live in their entirety.

The central challenge, and the central tribute, is the late Pimp C, UGK’s co-founder: the producer who shaped the album’s bass-heavy, 808-driven architecture and who died in December 2007. His verses are among the most essential passages in Southern hip-hop. The production addresses this directly, with guest artists performing those bars live — “reimagining them in real time while honoring the authenticity and spirit that made them iconic.” The bill includes Big K.R.I.T., Lil’ Keke, Slim Thug, David Banner, 8Ball & MJG, LE$, Chamillionaire, and Killa Kyleon; verses originally delivered by the late Mr. 3-2 are also represented.

Ridin’ Dirty, released July 30, 1996, on Jive Records, sold over 850,000 copies and was certified Gold by the RIAA — UGK’s best-selling release, and the record that helped pioneer the dirty South sound: bass-heavy, built on Southern street life and car culture, and rooted in a regional perspective that the national industry was slow to recognize. Bun B has been a guest lecturer at Houston’s Rice University since 2013; he anchors the evening, in the words of the event description, “not only as an artist, but as a steward of the legacy.”
