There is a particular kind of cultural event that arrives not through the typical channels — not through radio play or critical acclaim or the slow accumulation of touring dates — but through the living room, through Saturday morning routines, through the quiet moment when a parent sits down beside a small child and realizes, about ten minutes in, that the show is actually good. Bluey became that kind of show. The animated Australian series, created by Joe Brumm and set among the Heeler family, earned an Emmy® Award and built an audience that extends well beyond the under-seven demographic it nominally targets. Now the Heelers are coming to San Antonio in a form you cannot watch on a screen.
Bluey’s Big Play — the theatrical stage adaptation — brings the characters to life through oversized, handcrafted puppets at the Majestic Theatre San Antonio on Saturday, December 5, 2026, with performances at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM CT.
About the Show
The production carries the same creative lineage as the television series. The original story comes from Bluey creator Joe Brumm, and the new music was composed by Joff Bush, who scores the TV series. Direction is by Rosemary Myers of the Windmill Theatre Company, with the original voice cast from the series appearing in the production — Melanie Zanetti as Mum (Chilli) and David McCormack as Dad (Bandit). BBC Studios and Andrew Kay present the show in association with Windmill Theatre Co.
The story centers on a scenario any parent will recognize immediately. Dad (Bandit) has settled in for a quiet afternoon on the bean bag. Bluey and Bingo have other plans. Using the imagination and game-playing ingenuity that define the series, the sisters work to pull their father back into the fray. The show runs 50 minutes with no interval — a logistics detail not lost on any adult who has timed intermission bathroom runs with a five-year-old in tow.
Since its 2020 Australian premiere, the production has toured across the UK, Ireland, Canada, Europe, Singapore, South Africa, and the UAE, drawing over 2 million audience members worldwide. The December 4–6 run at the Majestic is part of the 2026 US tour.
After the curtain, audience members are invited to participate in “Keepy Uppy” — the air-ball game from the series — with air-filled balls and bubbles on the stage. Note that some seating sections cannot participate for safety reasons.
A VIP Package is available with premium seating, a post-show character meet-and-greet, an exclusive lanyard, and a sticker. Limited availability.
