There is a version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” you heard when you were too young to know whose voice that was, and you’ve been carrying it since. Art Garfunkel sang it. He is bringing his What a Wonderful World Celebration Tour to the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio on Saturday, June 20. Showtime is 8:00 PM.
About Art Garfunkel
Art Garfunkel grew up in Queens and met Paul Simon in the same neighborhood, attended the same schools, and started performing together before either of them could drive. They put out a single as Tom & Jerry in the mid-fifties—“Hey Schoolgirl” charted and got them on American Bandstand—and then they became Simon & Garfunkel, and the songs they made became part of the century. “The Sound of Silence.” “Scarborough Fair.” “The Boxer.” “Mrs. Robinson.” Bridge Over Troubled Water arrived in 1970, took Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year at the Grammys. Garfunkel sang the title track. That tenor—lucid, unhurried, high in the chest—is what the whole record leans on.
His solo output has its own thread. “All I Know,” written by Jimmy Webb, headlined his debut album Angel Clare in 1973. “I Only Have Eyes for You” came on Breakaway in 1975. He is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, a multiple Grammy Award winner including the Lifetime Achievement Award, and one of Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
The 2026 tour runs across North America and into Europe through the fall. In San Antonio, he plays with a band anchored by guitarist Tab Laven—more than 25 years alongside him—plus pianist Clifford Carter and keyboardist Kim Bullard.
The Majestic Theatre
The Majestic Theatre at 224 E. Houston St. is a 2,264-seat house in the heart of downtown San Antonio, near the River Walk. A room that knows how to hold a voice. It is the right building for this kind of show.
