Sengelmann Hall

About This Venue

Originally built late 1870s, destroyed by fire, rebuilt 1894. Closed early 1940s and sat dormant ~70 years. Artist Dana Harper bought it in 1999; after a $2M restoration (partially funded by federal historic tax credits) reopened June 2009. 2010 National Trust for Historic Preservation Honor Award. Original 117-year-old long-leaf pine dance floor preserved. NPR and PBS have featured the hall as the exemplar of Texas dance hall preservation. BBQ + biergarten downstairs. At the I-10 / US-77 crossroads — natural Hill Country to Gulf Coast stopover.
