James White opened the Spoke in 1964 a mile south of the city limits under a massive live oak; dance floor added 1966. Willie Nelson played here in 1967 still rocking his Nashville crew cut. Bob Wills, Roy Acuff, Ray Price, Ernest Tubb, George Strait, Dolly Parton, Asleep at the Wheel all played here. Now surreally wrapped by a New Urbanist condo development.
