Mon Laferte’s ninth album, Femme Fatale, occupies a specific mood: jazz chords built over bolero foundations, vocals pitched somewhere between torch song and argument, music that Consequence described as sounding “as if they could play in a James Bond film or fill a smoky, beatnik party.” The Femme Fatale Tour brings all of it to Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park on Tuesday, October 20.

Mon Laferte — born Norma Monserrat Bustamante Laferte in Viña del Mar, Chile, now a Mexican citizen — has spent two decades building a catalog that absorbs indie rock, bolero, cumbia, ranchera, and blues without any of those genres quite containing her. She adopted the name Mon Laferte in 2009 following a thyroid cancer diagnosis, what she’s described as marking “a new beginning and personal rebirth.” She’s a five-time Latin Grammy winner, the most Latin Grammy wins of any Chilean artist. The New York Times called her work “infusing vintage styles with up-to-date feelings and a fierce attitude”; BBC Music described it as “intimate and courageous … tackling complex topics such as misogyny, repression, and injustice.” Her single “Tu Falta de Querer” has crossed 860 million Spotify streams.
Femme Fatale (2025) is her most formally composed record yet: 14 tracks with jazz-inflected arrangements and bolero undertones that debuted at No. 10 on Billboard’s Top Latin Pop Albums chart. The bolero pull is personal: her grandmother was a bolero and tango singer, a lineage that has always run under her work and that this record surfaces directly. Running alongside the tour is the Spotify Sessions EQUAL Edition, a five-song audiovisual EP recorded with an all-female ensemble (drums, piano, double bass, saxophone) as part of Spotify’s EQUAL program supporting women in music. She’s spoken plainly about the 28-date North American run: “This doesn’t change anything politically, but maybe it can give people living in the U.S. a bit of hope, a sense of community, of support.” No support act is listed.
