Twenty-five years after an album that neither they nor anyone else saw coming, Jimmy Eat World is bringing Bleed American to Moody Amphitheater on Wednesday, September 9. All of it — front to back — as part of a 29-city North American anniversary run presented locally by 101x Concert Series. Minus the Bear and Sparta open the evening at the 5,000-capacity outdoor room; doors are 5:30 PM for a 6:30 PM show.
About Jimmy Eat World
The Mesa, Arizona quartet built Bleed American from scratch after Capitol Records cut them loose in 1999, the first two records having sold modestly and gone nowhere by the label’s math. The album they made for DreamWorks — their fourth — changed that. “The Middle” landed at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the record eventually went platinum, opening the door for a generation of alt-rock and pop-punk acts that came up in Bleed American‘s wake.
Singer Jim Adkins, reflecting on the tour, said: “Bleed American found its way into a lot of lives. None of us were thinking in terms of 5 years, let alone 25 years.” Drummer Zach Lind framed the run as “intentional gratitude” — his phrase for approaching these songs as a second chance to acknowledge the people who kept the band working for a quarter century. Adkins added that shows are planned as “an elevated version of our show,” with production built to reflect what this band has learned over decades of touring.
The Austin support bill lands well. Minus the Bear and Sparta are both rooted in the same early-aughts alternative scene that Bleed American helped define. Sparta traces directly back to At the Drive-In — two former members among its founders. These are not filler openers.
