Dermot Kennedy took a sabbatical in 2024 after seven consecutive years on the road. The Weight of the Woods is what came out of that time: fourteen tracks written near his Ireland home with collaborator Gabe Simon, drawing from that landscape as both sonic and lyrical material. The range is deliberate โ “Funeral” lands with raw urgency; “Refuge” pulls back into something quieter; “Honest” sits between them. Kennedy brings the record to Moody Amphitheater on Tuesday, October 13, as part of a 32-date North American fall run that also includes Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, and Forest Hills Stadium in New York.
About the Show
Jonah Kagen opens on most dates; the Moody stop is part of the main run. The Weight of the Woods, out April 3 via Interscope Records, is Kennedy’s third studio album. His path to it runs through years of busking in Dublin and across European cities, a breakthrough via Spotify Discover Weekly in 2016, festival slots at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Coachella, and a debut, Without Fear (2019), that became the best-selling debut album in Ireland of this millennium: number one in Ireland and the UK, platinum in more than 12 countries. Sonder (2022) also topped UK charts. A 2020 BRIT Award nomination for International Male Solo Artist came in between. The career streaming total runs to 4 billion. Across three records, Kennedy has worked in consistent territory: folk at the root, modern in the production, R&B-inflected in the dynamics, blending soaring melody with raw intensity and stripped-back reflection, anchored by a gravelly vocal that functions as the constant. This North American leg follows a European and UK run that closed with two sold-out nights at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium in July 2026 โ the scale gap between that market and the amphitheater routing stateside probably tells you more about where North American audiences are in the Kennedy timeline than it does about where he is going.
