The Coloring Book 10 Year Anniversary Tour puts Chance The Rapper at Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park on Sunday, September 13. Every night of the run, he performs the 2016 mixtape in full — then keeps going, pulling from the rest of the catalog. Doors open at 6:00 PM, show at 8:00 PM.

Chancelor Bennett grew up on the South Side of Chicago and built one of the more unusual careers in rap without ever signing to a major label. Coloring Book came out in May 2016, streaming-only, and reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200. What it triggered was bigger than chart position: at the 2017 Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy named it Best Rap Album — the first streaming-only project to win in any category — and Chance added Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance for “No Problem.” The Academy changed its eligibility rules in the aftermath to formally allow streaming projects to compete. One mixtape, from one independent artist, changed how the institution counted music.

The record earned that weight. Coloring Book drew from gospel and Black church tradition in a way that felt structural, baked into the production — not sampling, not atmosphere, but the actual architecture of the thing. The collaborators ran wide: Kirk Franklin and Justin Bieber on the same record as Lil Wayne, Future, Kanye West, 2 Chainz, T-Pain, and Saba. Rolling Stone called it a “gospel-rap masterpiece.” It holds up because the joy in it was never ironic.

In 2023, Chance performed Acid Rap — his breakout first mixtape — in full for that tenth anniversary. His 2025 album Star Line reached No. 22 on the Billboard 200. This tour isn’t nostalgia for its own sake. It’s Chance establishing where he stands relative to the decade, and what the record still means in a room.
